Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park

The Sierra and Cañones de Guara Natural Park is one of the most important natural areas in Aragon. It is notable for its canyons carved by rivers, its limestone landscapes, and its crystal-clear waters.

It is an ideal destination for canyoning, hiking, via ferrata, climbing and enjoying nature in its purest form.

This protected environment is home to species such as the bearded vulture, the griffon vulture or the Egyptian vulture, as well as a great variety of fauna and flora typical of the Aragonese Pre-Pyrenees.

Must-see natural places

Rodellar

A small village nestled in the heart of the Sierra de Guara mountains. It is an international hub for sport climbing and an ideal base for exploring the Mascún Canyon and its natural surroundings.

Bierge and the Bierge Jump

Bierge is one of the gateways to the Guara Natural Park. Among its attractions is the Bierge Waterfall, an old dam on the Alcanadre River that is very popular in summer as a natural swimming area.

Pools and rivers of Guara

Throughout the area you will find natural pools, stretches of river and bathing areas that are especially attractive in the summer months.

Charming villages near Alquézar

Buera

A small village with great rural charm. Highlights include the Church of San Juan, the Plaza Mayor, and the old Buera Olive Mill, a traditional olive press now converted into a museum.
Nearby is the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Dulcis, surrounded by olive groves and steeped in local tradition.

Colungo

Colungo preserves traditional Aragonese architecture with historic houses such as Casa Broto and Casa Notario.
Here you’ll find the Vero River Rock Art Center, ideal for learning about the area’s prehistory and visiting rock shelters with cave paintings.

Adahuesca and Somontano

A prime wine region, with small villages surrounded by vineyards and gentle landscapes. It’s an ideal stop to combine nature and gastronomy.

Naval

Known for its pottery tradition and salt flats, the town boasts the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor and the old Casa Palomera pottery workshop, now an interpretation center.

Culture, history and heritage

Barbastro

The capital of the Somontano region, with a significant historical heritage. Highlights include the Cathedral of the Assumption, the Episcopal Palace, and its historic center with streets like Argensola.

It is also a key point on the Somontano Wine Route, with wineries and wine tourism experiences.

Rock art of the Vero River

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Vero River Cultural Park preserves one of the most important collections of rock art in Europe.

Interpretation centers and rock shelters with prehistoric paintings can be visited through guided tours.

Pueyo Monastery

Located near Barbastro, it is a natural viewpoint overlooking the Somontano and the Pyrenees.

Somontano Wine Route

The Somontano Wine Route is one of the most highly recommended experiences near Alquézar. It includes visits to wineries, wine tastings, and local cuisine in a setting surrounded by vineyards.

It is the perfect complement to the nature activities of the Sierra de Guara.

Other places of interest

Laluenga

Starting point of the Pozos Fuente route, ancient underground constructions for water supply.

Torreciudad

A sanctuary located next to the El Grado reservoir, with great religious and scenic value. It forms part of the Marian Route along with Lourdes, Montserrat, and El Pilar.
